Historical note
Pepperdine University is accredited by WASC, the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Pepperdine College was first accredited in 1949, by an earlier accreditation board. Accreditation is an ongoing process requiring significant data collection, many reports, and visits by WASC staff to Pepperdine's campuses. The process is designed to provide data and information for better understanding university goals, infrastructure, processes, and its own progress. (Five other academic bodies also accredit Pepperdine, but the majority of the reports are from WASC.) WASC was formed in 1962, and accredited all institutions previously accredited by the Association of American Universities, North Central Association.
