Historical note

The Board of Regents currently has forty members, and is the legal governing body and chief policy board of Pepperdine University. Former regents are recognized as "Life Regents," and are non-voting members. The university administration works with the Board of Regents to shape policy and direction for the University. Pepperdine had multiple names for governing boards over the years, including the Board of Counselors, President's Board, Board of Trustees, and others. Between 1975 and 1976, the governing board was expanded and the name was changed from the Board of Trustees to the Board of Regents, while the members of the former Board of Trustees became the Religious Standards Committee.
