 File — Box: 5, Folder: 9

Scope and Content

From the Series:

The series consists of photographs taken by Hanson during his service in the US Army from 1950 to 1952. The photographs document Williams' time at Fort Ord, Fort MacArthur, traveling by boat from Korea to Japan, and his time stationed in Korea. Williams was assigned to the Signal Corps as a war photographer when deployed to Korea. In this capacity, he often photographed soldiers in combat, special events, and visiting dignitaries such as generals, politicians, and celebrities. In addition to the military photos that Hanson took, he also photographed people in neighboring cities and villages during his leisure time with a personal camera. Examples of materials include a handwritten biography of Williams by his wife (Talma Williams), CDs with captions and voiceovers by Williams, Chinese propaganda, issues of the newspaper Stars and Stripes, as well as pictures of Syngman Rhee, military generals, and people from the cities and villages of Korea.
