1. Bulletins and Newsletters, 1922-1984

 Series

Scope and Contents

This series contains the Malibou Lake Mountain Club Bulletin (sometimes called Newsletter) for the years 1922-1984. This publication served as a community news source, and covered a variety of subjects, including: updates from the Board of Directors, mainly about the Club's finances; details about Club events and promotions for upcoming events; news and updates about members, such as births, marriages, travel experiences, and deaths; information about local events such as fires, construction, and mountain lion attacks; club history, mainly written by editor Frank J. Earls, also known as "Old Man Malibou"; and records of Malibou Lake's use as a filming location for commercials, TV shows, and movies. Also included are related special publications, including a booklet celebrating Malibou Lake Mountain Club's 60th anniversary, a map of the planned Mulholland Highway expansion, and a 1924 poster for a competition to bring in new Club members.

Many of the items in this collection, especially the older bulletins, are photocopies of the originals. The bulletins and newsletters arrived in folders labeled "Joyce Moe Collection." Each folder still contains a printed list of the contents of each folder, titled "Joyce Moe Collection". Joyce Moe served as editor of the bulletin from 1974-1984.
