Scope and Content
The sub-series contains files on various subjects that contain primarily correspondence, reports, newspaper clippings, notes, and other paper materials collected in the office of M. Norvel Young during his time at Pepperdine University in the capacity of President, Chancellor, and Chancellor Emeritus. The files contain documentation of university policies and procedures, material generated from administrative work and activities at Pepperdine, Norvel’s community and civic involvement, and information related to interests that would improve the Pepperdine community.
Major topics include accreditation; fundraising and campus campaigns; encouragement of alumni involvement and events; Los Angeles and Malibu campus planning and building; the development of professional schools (including the School of Law, School of Business and Management, and Graduate School of Education and Psychology); campus organizations and programs; budgets and financial plans; donors; community involvement (on advisory boards such as the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, Lockheed Aircraft Corporation, and others); campus issues; travel abroad for public relations purposes; and other topics. There are large groups of files on various trips Norvel took for recruitment of alumni donations, speeches and conferences, and for bestowing honorary degrees, including visits to Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Iran, Thailand, Taiwan, and Moscow.
